Feature Friday: A Shimmy in My Spirit

in Feature Friday

The BlogRollers are all about promoting the power of female bloggers and so much of that starts with you. We’ve created our BlogRoll so that we could show you a little linky love and so that others can find you, too. Every week we choose one of you lovely Rollers (via Random.org) for Feature Friday. We believe in promoting and supporting one another and there’s no better way to do that than by shining the spotlight on as many fabulous blogs as possible.

With that said, this week’s Feature Friday blogger is Cynthia from A Shimmy In My Spirit. She’s celebrating her one year blog-anniversary tomorrow so once you’ve read her feature, make sure to go show her some love!

Blog: A Shimmy In My Spirit

How long have you been blogging?
Being featured on The BlogRollers today is a celebration for me. I began my blog one year ago tomorrow. (March 13, 2009). I am going to repost my very first blog tomorrow called Do These Jeans Make My Ass Look Big.

30 second skinny and 3 favorite posts:
I blog about what puts a shimmy in my spirit, a strut in my walk and rhythm back into my soul.

Favorites – My first post is still one of my favorites. Three things that will put a shimmy in my spirit are (1) dancing around my kitchen, (2) Photographing with my iPhone and (3) Favorite Magazines

1. I post a lot about dancing around my kitchen. I find that in 10 minutes I can lift my mood by 20%. (Yes I’ve kept a chart – What can I say, I’m a bit geeky). Other women are beginning to dance around their houses and leave comments about how they’ve improved their days. I love that.

2. I have been a professional photographer for many years. Recently I find that I love photographing most with my iPhone. I try to post an iPhone photograph every day and also like to post reviews of my favorite iPhone photography apps.

3. Each month I try to post the top ten tips from that month’s favorite magazines. I haven’t gotten to March yet, but here is February…

What inspired you to start blogging?
I had someone I loved die from ALS. I was sad for a long time. I felt like I needed to look for ways to put some smiles and creativity back into my life and to energize myself so I could be there for those who need me. I also thought if I could find some ways to lift my spirits, maybe it would lift someone else as well.

How has blogging changed your life?
I think the most important way it has changed my life is how every day I consciously look for ways to have fun, to create and to be inspired, so I have something to put on my blog. I search out something to smile about every day!

What do you wish someone would’ve told you to when you started blogging?
I don’t think I really understood how very generous the women blogging community is. They have encouraged me, laughed with me and taught me so much. I’m very grateful to have met so many wonderful women.

Give us the dirt; what’s one thing about you your readers’ don’t know?
I recently was tagged and asked this same question…so I already spilled the beans here -http://bit.ly/SecretsAboutMe

Spread the love, name three blogs in your reader.
It’s difficult to choose just 3 – there are so many I love – but here they are…

Paris Breakfasts – How can you not love somone who loves Paris so much.

I’ll Be The One In Heels – Kalisa is funny and writes great posts. Don’t miss her take on the Oscar dresses.

Country Fried Mama – I met this yankee mom who lives in the deep, deep south at the Bliss conference. Her blog is great. She’s also funny and writes beautifully about her life and two adorable little girls.

Love Cynthia – she has all of us Dancing in our Kitchens! But for me – it's only when no one is around! Great to see her featured.

Yes, I dance in my kitchen, too. I've always loved to dance.
And thanks for sharing about CountryFriedMamma's blog. I loved it!
