We Support Rwanda Path to PeaceMacy’s Rwanda Path to Peace Six-City Tour Begins in Atlanta!
Join The BlogRollers Media, Everywhere, and Macy’s in a celebration of the Rwanda Path to Peace project LIVE and in person at the Macy’s store in Lenox Square in Atlanta this Thursday December 3 at 6:30 PM.  As you know, we’ve been hard at work for the past few months on a digital outreach campaign to raise awarness about this spectacular movement for the economic empowerment of the women of Rwanda.  Here’s an opportunity to show your support and share in the spirit of this magnificent program.  There will be music, fun, giveaways, and of course the display of beautiful Rwandan crafts that are only available online.
Meet Janet Nkubana
At this event you will have the pleasure of meeting Janet Nkubana, a native of Rwanda and “basket mogul.”  Janet runs Gahaya Links the premier weaving association in Rwanda employing more than 4,000 rural women. Gahaya Links is committed to empowering rural communities through basket weaving and is now the leading exporter of baskets from Rwanda to the U.S.A  She has built a huge training facility where she invites women to come in from the countryside and learn the basics of weaving, along with household management, AIDS prevention, etc.   She was featured in Andrew Young’s film, Rwanda Rising.  She also has her own amazing life story of overcoming the obstacles of living in a war-torn country and acheiving entrepreneurial greatness.  After the genocide, she traveled immediately to Rwanda and took it upon herself to make sure the women there had a future. She set up Gahaya Links, connected with Willa Shallit of Fair Winds Trading…and the rest is history.   Last year, Janet was awarded the 2008 Africa Prize for her efforts to end hunger.  Along with sharing her remarkable story, Janet will also be signing purchased baskets.
