in Feature Friday

The BlogRollers are all about promoting the power of female bloggers and so much of that starts with you. We’ve created our BlogRoll so that we could show you a little linky love and so that others can find you, too. Every week we choose one of you lovely Rollers (via Random.org) for Feature Friday. We believe in promoting and supporting one another and there’s no better way to do that than by shining the spotlight on as many fabulous blogs as possible.

With that said, this week’s Feature Friday blogger is Sheena from Mommy Daddy Blog. Once you’ve read her feature, make sure to go show her some love!

Name: Sheena

Blog(s): Mommy Daddy Blog & Sophistishe among others…
How long you’ve been blogging: 8 years
Tell us the 30 second skinny about your blog.
Mommy Daddy Blog is a personal parenting blog coauthored by my other half and myself. Before we got pregnant we came up with the idea of starting a parenting blog together where we could blog about our family. We registered the domain and squatted on it until the time was right. Little did we know that we would become pregnant 4 months later. It’s been over a year now and we’ve formed relationships with amazing bloggers and companies. I’ll admit that I’ve been on an emotional rollercoaster with my blog. Right now I’m trying to do some soul searching. I’ve learned a lot and I’m trying to put the pieces to the puzzle together. Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere. Daddy is planning a comeback as well ;-) .
Sophistishe is the personal blog that I abandoned shortly after learning that I was pregnant. I’m trying to revive it because it is a huge chunk of me that I left behind. I miss blogging about my life, there’s so much more to me than being “Mommy.” When I entered the world of Mommy Blogging, I started leaving a lot to the imagination.
What inspired you to start blogging?
Back in 2001, I had a Blackplanet.com page. With those pages there was only so much you could do to modify them with html, so I starting building sites on Geocities. Some time after that I got hosted on a friend’s subdomain and on a whim I signed up for a blog on pitas.com and embedded that blog on my site with an iframe. Since then I’ve had 4 domains that I’ve blogged at.
How has blogging changed your life?
Being a part of the blogging community has given me a wealth of information. I learn something new each day. Blogging has given me “something to do.” It has become my passion and low and behold it now helps support my family. It’s been 8 years, it’s about time, right? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
What do you wish someone would’ve hipped you to when you started your blog?
Oh gosh, the drama. I mean back when I was blogging as a teen, bloggers would get in to it because so and so copied another blogger’s layout or something. So to get away from that, I started reading adult blogs, primarily parenting blogs because I was fascinated with having a family. Nope. Now it’s about who went on this brand trip. Who got picked for that. Who takes sponsored opportunities and who doesn’t. What media outlet got their facts wrong about bloggers again and the list goes on. I’m not saying this is what goes on in the entire parent blogging community, just the portion that I follow. Don’t get me wrong, there’s an abundance of positive energy in the parent blogging community. It just gets overwhelming at times with the bickering that has been going on lately.
Give us the dirt; what’s one thing about you your readers don’t know?
I can’t open a box of pasta without eating at least one in it’s raw, crunchy goodness. I’ve been doing this since I was a little girl.
Spread the love; name three blogs in your reader.
Thanks for sharing, Sheena!

You have picked an awesome woman for this weeks Featured Blogger. I have been reading Sheena since Sophistishe. I distinctly remember getting in trouble at one job for popping on her site daily. (I finally got them to grant me permission to visit her site because of good attendance/scores blah blah blah lol)

I love both of your blogs and I can't wait for you to step back into your blog and start posting on a regular basis. I too started blogging years ago (back in 2003) and the most drama I saw was on copied layouts or message board dramas. lol Mommy blogging has opened up a whole new world of drama.

Sheena keep up the good work! And Blogrollers keep doing what you're doing! Loves it!
